Antonio Verdejo-Garcia is Associate Professor and Deputy Director of the Addiction Program within the Monash Institute of Cognitive and Clinical Neurosciences (MICCN) at Monash University. He has an Adjunct Honorary Appointment in Turning Point (Eastern Health). He has a PhD in Psychology (University of Granada, 2006), and a Masters in Psychological and Biomedical Aspects of Health and Illness (University of Granada, 2002).
After obtaining his PhD, Antonio held a post-doctoral fellowship in the Neuroscience Program of the IMIM-Hospital del Mar (Barcelona Biomedical Research Park), where he developed strategic research collaborations in the fields of neuropharmacology and neuroimaging. He was subsequently appointed as Lecturer, Senior Lecturer and Associate Professor (Universidad de Granada) before arriving at Monash in 2013.
Antonio’s research focuses on the cognitive and neural mechanisms underpinning executive control and decision-making, and their implications for addiction and obesity. He has published 200 peer-reviewed articles and book chapters, and his research has been continuously funded via national and international competitive research schemes since 2009. His work has attracted over 10,000 citations. He sits on the Editorial Board of the journals: Addiction, The American Journal of Drug and Alcohol Abuse, European Addiction Research, Current Addiction Reports, and Adicciones.
